Louis William Glaeser was born on 1 Aug 1822 at Rondebosch, Cape Town, South Africa.

He was the son of George William Henry Glaeser and Dorothea Catharina Cornelia van Dyk.

He was christened on 23 Oct 1822 at Lutheran Church, Cape Town, South Africa.

He married Wilhelmina Elizabeth le Sueur on 24 Jan 1851 at Worcester, Cape Colony. Wilhelmina Elizabeth was the daughter of Jacobus Johannes Petrus le Sueur and Rykje Catharina Arnoldina Fischer. She was born on 9 Nov 1827. She died on 22 May 1875 at Worcester, Cape Colony at the age of 47.
