William Whipp was born on 28 Oct 1862 at Mooirivier, Estcourt, Natal, South Africa.

He was the son of John Whipp and Mary Anne Hodgson.

He married Annie Maud Simpson on 19 Jun 1888 at Newcastle, Natal, South Africa. She was born on 18 Jun 1868. She died on 23 Oct 1958 at the age of 90.

They had 3 children: John "Jack" Whipp, Annie Dorothy Whipp and Marion Whipp.

He died on 24 May 1944 at Farm Hampton, Newcastle, Natal, South Africa at the age of 81.
