John Christian Glaeser was born on 28 Jun 1820 at Worcester, Cape Colony.

He was the son of George William Henry Glaeser and Dorothea Catharina Cornelia van Dyk.

He was also known as Johan Christiaan Glaeser.

He was christened on 2 Sep 1820 at Lutheran Church, Cape Town, South Africa.

He married Elizabeth Catherina Vos on 14 Jan 1857 at Tulbagh, Cape, South Africa. Elizabeth Catherina was the daughter of Willem Nicolaas Vos and Sophia Maria Edwards. She was born on 31 Dec 1835 at Nooitgedacht, Tulbagh Kloof, Cape Of Good Hope, South Africa. She died on 18 May 1873 at the age of 37.

They had 9 children: Elizabeth Henrietta Christina Glaeser, Dorothea Georgina Glaeser, George William Glaeser, Johanna Margaritha Petronella Glaeser, William Nicholas Glaeser, Maria Louisa Glaeser, Catharina Johanna Glaeser, Henrietta Sophia Glaeser and Louisa Wilhelmina Glaeser.

He married Magdalena Elizabeth Diedrika Fraenkel on 5 Dec 1882 at Cape Town, Cape Colony. Magdalena Elizabeth Diedrika was the daughter of Siegfried Fraenkel and Johanna Catharina Henckes. She died on 30 Dec 1883.
