Harold Eric (Bay) Knowles was born on 6 Nov 1891.

He was the son of Harold Gabriel Knowles and Helena Maria Glaeser.

He was christened on 3 Apr 1893 at St Cyprian Church, Durban, Colony of Natal.

He married Blanche Amelia Viggers on 10 May 1926 at St Augustine's Church, Kimberley, Cape, South Africa. Blanche Amelia was the daughter of William Viggers and Laura Endicott. She was born on 28 Mar 1899. She died on 25 May 1996 at Stadium Residence, Main Road, Green Point, Cape Town, Cape, South Africa at the age of 97.

He married Daphne Catherine Poacher on 31 Aug 1957. Daphne Catherine was the daughter of John Poacher and Lily Crookes. She was born on 19 May 1918. She died on 26 Mar 2003 at Pinetown, Natal, South Africa at the age of 84.

He died in Jan 1980.
