He was born on 3 Jan 1877 at Killala, Mayo, Ireland. He died on 23 Dec 1960 at 19 Clendinning Road, Sarnia, Pinetown, Natal, South Africa at the age of 83.

They had 4 children: Selena Margaret (Pansy) Clendinning, Agnes Isobel (Myrtle) Clendinning, Thomas Gibson (Gibby) Clendinning and Richard Munro Clendinning.
