Biography

Hendrik Swellengrebel was born on 26 Sep 1700 at Cape Town, Cape of Good Hope.

He was the son of Johannes Swellengrebel and Johanna Cruse.

He married Helena Wilhelmina Ten Damme on 15 Nov 1727. Helena Wilhelmina Ten was the daughter of Willem Ten Damme and Helena Gulix. She was born on 26 Jun 1706. She died on 30 Dec 1746 at the age of 40.

They had 8 children: Johannes Willem Swellengrebel, Helena Swellengrebel, Barbara Swellengrebel, Johanna Engela Swellengrebel, Hendrik Swellengrebel, Willem Maurits Swellengrebel, Claudina Constantia Swellengrebel and Ertman Balthasar Swellengrebel.

He married Helena van Ruyven on 20 Mar 1755 at Oosterbeek, nr Arnhem, Holland. She was born at Arnhem, Holland. She died on 21 May 1804 at Utrecht, Netherlands.

His occupation was Governor of The Cape.

He died on 26 Dec 1760 at Utrecht, Netherlands at the age of 60.

He was buried at Janskerk, Utrecht, Holland.
