Mary Ann Allison was born on 11 Apr 1846 at Thaba 'Nchu, Free State, South Africa.

She was the daughter of Joseph Allison and Johanna Elizabeth Francina du Plooy.

She married David John McMaster on 11 Mar 1869 at Tempe, Bloemfontein, Orange Free State, South Africa. David John was the son of David John James McMaster and Jane Margaret Pinchin Webber. He was born on 29 Jan 1838 at Grahamstown, Eastern Cape Province, South Africa. He died on 11 Nov 1912 at Thaba 'Nchu, Free State, South Africa at the age of 74.

They had 10 children: Kenneth Joseph McMaster, Winifred Margaret McMaster, Ida Frances Josephine McMaster, Aubrey George McMaster, Percy Henry McMaster, Colin Allison McMaster, Lorna Caroline McMaster, Irene Kathleen McMaster, Clarence David McMaster and Glenallen Andrew Maxwell McMaster.

She died on 29 Sep 1929 at Bloemfontein, Orange Free State, South Africa at the age of 83.
