Sarah Anne Whipp was born on 11 Apr 1858.

She was the daughter of John Whipp and Mary Anne Hodgson.

She was christened on 18 May 1873 at St Peters, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.

She married Francis John Birkett on 26 Apr 1879 at Newcastle, Natal, South Africa. He was born on 31 May 1846 at London. He died on 27 Jun 1920 at Nkandhla, Zululand, Natal, South Africa at the age of 74.

They had 6 children: John Louis Birkett, Eleanor Lucy Birkett, Beryl Evelyn Birkett, Horace Francis Birkett, Norah Janson Birkett and Richard Myles Birkett.

She died on 5 Oct 1934 at Clair Road, Clairwood, Durban, Natal, South Africa at the age of 76.

She was buried at Nkandla, Zululand.
