Changes

  • 22 June 2024 - Updated to recognise the death in May this year of my Aunt Barbara and also of Fay Kaiser (nee Sim) who died in April. Added an additional 70 individuals and newly discovered details for others. It's been a year now since my brother passed away and I have changed his individual page at Michael Gordon Munro to usual colour scheme with tributes to celebrate his memory.

  • 27 November 2023 - Update including adding an additional 101 individuals. Reverted to original home page and updated individual page for Michael Gordon Munro to include tributes in his memory.

  • 20 July 2023 - Home page in memory of Michael Gordon Munro and his individual page updated.

  • 14 March 2023 - 29 new individuals added, and various minor corrections. - The Munros of Saltburn added in Stories. - Location maps updated.

  • 3 January 2023 - Major update - 157 new individuals added - details from 1921 UK census included. Locations maps not updated due to software licence restrictions

  • 10 July 2022 - added two obituaries for George Munro, - "An Adventurous Life", a transcript of the obituary , published in The Natal Mercury on 14th March 1923, and an Obituary, published in The Natal Daily News on 13th March 1923.

  • 2 June 2022 - database updated with 93 new individuals with 29 new surnames, and involving 38 new locations. added statistics page and location map.

  • 31 May 2022 - removed non functional search button.

  • 30 March 2022 - added photo of John Hamish Munro - courtesy of Ian Crickmore-Thompson.

  • 9 February 2022 - Database updated.
    - Added trial search function (removed 31 May due to nonfunction.)
    - Added a basic Gallery of photographs. These are watermarked for protection, but if you think you have a legitimate reason to have a copy of one or more of them, please make a request, using the feedback form.

  • 4 January 2022 - Database updated and rebuilt with 55 new individuals added.

  • Added details of Arthur Raymond Dearlove's war experience as a PoW .

  • Corrected name of husband of Johanna Egberta le Sueur to Tobias Johannes van der Riet

  • Added marriage of Margaret Adam to Charles Scott Middler and their adopted child Charles Middler.

  • Have added a page with the Wedding photo of Margaret Mary (Daisy) Munro and Alexander Dryden taken on 30 March 1878 which includes the entire Munro family of Pinetown, and partners of daughters Laura and Alexanderina.

  • Corrected name of son of John Munro and Alice Munro (Thring) from Albert Edward to Frank Albert after finding sufficient evidence to suggest that this is the correct name. Added his wife, Blanche Constance Duke, and marriage details as well as their death information.

  • Added a page summarising the Wreck of the Drummond Castle and the effect on the Peachey family of Tongaat, Natal.

  • Added biological father for Conrad William Bremner Diack, who was known as William Diack Low, after being adopted by his stepfather.

  • Added link to story about Natal Witness Article about Alice Elizabeth Munro's (nee Thring) death.

  • Jackson:- correct parents for Staley Nettleship Gower Jackson viz. Gower Alexander Jackson and Lillian Thorne Jeffkins. Previously incorrectly connected to his grandparents. Other Jackson family added.

  • George Samuel Munro - marriage information corrected: bride Anna Margaretha Johanna Kapp instead of incorrect Sarah Ada Derman and death information updated. Corrected parents and marriage for George Munro.

  • Full version of "A Settler's Story" added.
