Emily Charlotte Wallis was born on 20 Aug 1859 at Aliwal North, Cape Colony.

She was the daughter of George Claridge Wallis and Isabella Brooks.

She was christened on 3 Aug 1865 at Grahamstown, Albany, Cape Colony.

She married Walter Palmer Brookshaw on 28 Jul 1884 at Queenstown, Albany, Cape Colony. Walter Palmer was the son of Thomas Brookshaw and Esther Elizabeth Openshaw. He was born about 1864. He died on 18 Mar 1943 at Balloon, Senekal, Orange Free State, South Africa.

They had 5 children: Gordon Walter Brookshaw, Ethel May Brookshaw, Fanny Brookshaw, Alice Isabel Brookshaw and Linda Winifred Brookshaw.

She died on 26 Jul 1894 at Clocolan, Ladybrand, Orange Free State, South Africa at the age of 34.
