Colin William Knowles was born on 4 Dec 1930.

He was the son of John Oscar Douglas (Chappie) Knowles and Margaret (Sissy) Hagens.

He married Edith Helen Whittet on 20 Oct 1956 at St Andrews Presbyterian Church, Durban, Natal, South Africa. Edith Helen was the daughter of George Charles Whittet and Elizabeth Horsley Anderson. She was born on 2 May 1933. She died between Jul and Sep 2013 at Exmouth, Devon, England.

He immigrated from Southampton, England to Durban, South Africa on 22 Oct 1959 aboard Carnarvon Castle.

He died on 18 Mar 2015 at Oxfordshire, England at the age of 84.
