Emma Eliza Gillitt was born in Sep 1831 at Emberton, England.

She was the daughter of William Gillitt and Maria.

She married Spencer French Drake on 25 Jan 1853 at Pinetown, Natal, South Africa. Spencer French was the son of Spencer Drake and Eliza Mary French. He was born on 6 Aug 1824 at Acle, Norfolk, England (or at sea). He died on 3 Feb 1885 at Pinetown, Natal, South Africa at the age of 60.

They had 12 children: Emma Drake, Mary Ann Drake, Kate Drake, Agnes Drake, William Henry Francis Drake, Alice Maud Mary Drake, Francis Henry Drake, Sabrina Louisa Drake, Henry Percy John Drake, Arthur William Drake, Edith Fanny Drake and Edward Enfield Drake.

She died on 3 Aug 1916 at Acre Cottage, Sarnia, Pinetown, Natal, South Africa.

She was buried in 1916 at St. John's Church Cemetery, Pinetown, Natal.
