Arthur William Drake was born on 20 Feb 1870.

He was the son of Spencer French Drake and Emma Eliza Gillitt.

He was christened on 15 Dec 1871 at Pinetown, Natal, South Africa.

He married Mary Ann Kean on 27 Oct 1897 at Pietermaritzburg, Natal, South Africa. Mary Ann was the daughter of John Kean and Caroline Ann Ashmore. She was born in 1875. She died on 24 Aug 1949 at Grey's Hospital, Pietermaritzburg, Natal, South Africa.

They had 5 children: Wilfred Arthur Drake, Cyril French Drake, Herbert Arthur Drake, Phyllis Catherine Drake and Percy Ivan Arthur Drake.

His occupation was SAR Station Master Krantzkloof.

He died on 10 Oct 1932 at Durban South Africa at the age of 62.
