Roland Roy Whipp was born on 9 Jan 1910 at Vrede, Orange Free State Colony.

He was the son of Robert John Whipp and Mary Jane Lazenby.

He married Grace Alison Rennie on 6 Aug 1938 at Greyville Presbyterian Church, Durban, Natal, South Africa. Grace Alison was the daughter of Andrew Brown Rennie and Ethel Beatrice.

He died on 29 Jul 1992 at Natal, South Africa at the age of 82.

He was buried in 1992 at Margate Main Cemetery, Natal, South Africa.
