Ronald Gerard Maré was born on 1 Mar 1928.

He was the son of Hendrik Gerhardus Maré and Maria Aletta Susanna Botha.

He married Margaret Ann Low on 5 Feb 1952 at Kempton Park, Germiston, Transvaal, South Africa. Margaret Ann was the daughter of John Hill Low and Lisette (Etta) Lavendar Dunbar Anderson. She was born on 18 Sep 1932. She died on 16 Jan 2019 at the age of 86.

They had 3 children: Lisette Lavendar Maré, Living and Living.

He died on 24 Jul 2005 at the age of 77.
