He married Maria Aletta Susanna Botha. Maria Aletta Susanna was the daughter of Jacobus Stephanus Botha and Maria. She was born on 1 Apr 1906 at Edenvale, Transvaal, South Africa. She died on 29 May 1986 at Bloemfontein, Orange Free State, South Africa at the age of 80.

They had one child: Ronald Gerard Maré.

He died in Jun 1967.
