She was the daughter of William Paterson and Catherine Lyall.

She married John Crawford on 20 Nov 1880 at Addington, Durban, Colony of Natal. John was the son of Thomas Crawford and Diana Bruce. He was born on 31 Oct 1855 at Banff, Banffshire, Scotland. He died on 23 Dec 1886 at Barberton Hospital, Transvaal, South Africa at the age of 31.

They had 4 children: Thomas George Crawford, William Paterson Crawford, Mary Eleanor Crawford and John Crawford.

She married John Allan on 3 Jan 1889 at Point Road, Addington, Durban, Colony of Natal. He died on 19 Dec 1903.
