William Roland Thomson was born on 8 Dec 1922.

He was the son of George Leonard Patrick Thomson and Mary Edith Lloyd.

He married Gwyneth Muriel Munro on 31 Jul 1948 at St John's Church, Pinetown, Natal, South Africa. Gwyneth Muriel was the daughter of Alfred Charles Munro and Gladys Vera Knowles. She was born on 22 Jun 1923 at Eshowe, Zululand, South Africa. She died on 12 Apr 1986 at Durban, Natal, South Africa at the age of 62.

They had 3 children: Living, Living and Living.

He died on 8 Feb 1994 at Westville, Natal, South Africa at the age of 71.
