Ernest Horatius Leroni Stoten was born on 16 Jan 1928 at Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.

He was the son of Horace Thomas Leroni-Stoten and Magdalena Robina Harker.

He married Ethne Myra Craven on 10 Oct 1953 at Bethlehem, Orange Free State, South Africa. Ethne Myra was the daughter of John Godfrey Craven and Catharina Helena. She was born about 1932. She died on 14 Feb 2023.

They had 4 children: Living, Living, Living and Living.

He died on 15 Aug 2015 at Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa at the age of 87.
