Jacobus de Wet was born on 17 Jan 1672 at Amsterdam, Netherlands.
He was the son of Jacob de Wet and Helena Stalmans.

He married Josina Pretorius. Josina was the daughter of Johannes Pretorius and Johanna Victor.
They had one child: Jacobus Wilhelmus de Wet.
He married Christina Bergh on 13 Apr 1698 at Cape Town, Cape of Good Hope. Christina was the daughter of Olof Bergh and Anna de Koningh.
They had 5 children: Olof de Wet, Anna Helena de Wet, Anna Helena de Wet, Jacoba Christina de Wet and Johannes Carolus de Wet.
He died on 31 Dec 1710 at Cape Town, Cape of Good Hope at the age of 38.
