He was christened on 15 Nov 1750.

He married Anna Catharina Dorothea Hitsmann on 18 Feb 1781. Anna Catharina Dorothea was the daughter of Johan Anton Hitsmann and Maria Helena van Niekerk. She was born on 11 Mar 1761.

They had 11 children: Maria Jacoba Johanna Herholdt, Johanna Sophia Herholdt, Jan Anthonie Herholdt, Albertus Johannes Hendricus Herholdt, Jan Daniel Herholdt, Anna Catharina Dorothea Herholdt, Geertruida Johanna Herholdt, Joel Daniel Herholdt, Hendrik Christiaan Herholdt, Abraham Pieter Herholdt and Johannes Jacobus Herholdt.
