Anna Catharina Dorothea Hitsmann was born on 11 Mar 1761.

She was the daughter of Johan Anton Hitsmann and Maria Helena van Niekerk.

She married Johan Daniel Herholdt on 18 Feb 1781. Johan Daniel was the son of Albrecht Johan(n) Hendrik (Heinrich) Herholdt and Johanna Sophia Greyling.

They had 11 children: Maria Jacoba Johanna Herholdt, Johanna Sophia Herholdt, Jan Anthonie Herholdt, Albertus Johannes Hendricus Herholdt, Jan Daniel Herholdt, Anna Catharina Dorothea Herholdt, Geertruida Johanna Herholdt, Joel Daniel Herholdt, Hendrik Christiaan Herholdt, Abraham Pieter Herholdt and Johannes Jacobus Herholdt.
