Joseph Dearlove was born on 16 Nov 1871 at Kimberley, Diamandveld, Northern Cape, South Africa.
He was the son of Joseph Avery Dearlove and Mary Low.
He was christened on 15 Jun 1873 at All Saints and St Cyprians Missions, Kimberley, Cape of Good Hope.
He married Johanna Jacoba Liebenberg. She was born on 11 Nov 1872. She died on 26 Sep 1966 at the age of 93.
They had 5 children: William Henry Dearlove, Joseph Avery Dearlove, Francis Dearlove, Jacoba Johanna Dearlove and John Dearlove.
He died on 27 Oct 1911 at Benoni, East Rand, Gauteng, South Africa at the age of 39.
