Mary Elizabeth Whipp was born on 20 May 1821.

She was the daughter of Samuel Whipp and Hannah Blackburn.

She was recorded in the census in 1841 at Finamore's Place, St John Horsleydown, Surrey, England.

She married Alfred Methley Goulden on 28 Jan 1850 at St Mary the Less, Lambeth, Surrey, England. Alfred Methley was the son of Richard Goulden and Mary Bayne. He was born on 28 Oct 1830 at Whitstable, Kent, England. He died on 21 Aug 1883 at West Street, Pietermaritzburg, Natal, South Africa at the age of 52.

They had one child: Eliza Ellen Goulden.

She immigrated from Minerva on 4 Jul 1850.

She died on 5 Feb 1904 at Newcastle, Natal, South Africa at the age of 82.

She was buried in 1904 at Old Cemetery, Newcastle, Colony of Natal.
