Alfred George Cameron Reid was born on 7 Jul 1901 at St Andrew and St Michael, Bloemfontein Cathedral, Bloemfontein, Orange Free State.

He was the son of John Alexander Reid and Helen Margaret Cameron.

He married Brenda Ethne Scholtz on 5 Feb 1933 at Bloemfontein, Orange Free State, South Africa. She was born on 24 Jun 1908 at Cape Colony. She died on 8 Aug 1992 at Bloemfontein, Orange Free State, South Africa at the age of 84.

He died in 1972.
