He married Louisa Whipp on 18 Jul 1894 at Newcastle, Natal, South Africa. Louisa was the daughter of John Whipp and Mary Anne Hodgson. She was born on 1 Jul 1869. She died on 1 Jun 1943 at Berea Nursing Home, Durban, Natal, South Africa at the age of 73.

They had one child: George Arnold Plowes.
