James Williams Wills was born about 1800.

He married Betsy Brooming Rickard on 8 Nov 1822 at Parish Church of Calstock, Calstock, Cornwall, England. Betsy Brooming was the daughter of John Benjamin Frank Rickard and Elizabeth Brooming. She was born about 1801 at Calstock, Cornwall, England. She died on 17 Oct 1875 at Upper Moutere, Tasman, New Zealand.

They had one child: Thirza Rickard Wills.

He died on 6 Dec 1869 at Upper Moutere, Tasman, New Zealand.

He was buried at Moutere Hills Cemetery, Upper Moutere, Tasman, New Zealand.
