James Graham Brown was born on 26 Sep 1914.

He was the son of James Brown and Mary Jackson Newbold Heape.

He married Ethne Doris Johnson on 24 Nov 1945 at Cambridge, Waikato, New Zealand. Ethne Doris was the daughter of Meriton Murray Johnson and Annie Thirza Catherine Foote. She was born on 27 May 1915. She died on 8 Jun 1983 at Lower Hutt, Wellington, New Zealand at the age of 68.

They had one child: Murray Graham Brown.

He died on 5 Sep 1978 at Whangerei, New Zealand at the age of 63.

He was buried at Maunu Cemetery, Whangarei, Whangarei District, Northland, New Zealand.
