He married Catherine Margaret Lange on 6 Jul 1848 at Westville, Natal, South Africa. She died on 3 May 1909 at Pinetown, Natal, South Africa.

They had 6 children: Elizabeth Davidson, Henry George Davidson, John Hermann Davidson, Hermann Harvey Davidson, Jane Elizabeth Christina Davidson and Margaret Davidson.

He died on 25 Apr 1900.
