He was the son of John Hamish Munro and Alice Elizabeth Thring.

He married Anna Margaretha Johanna Kapp on 1 May 1894 at Dutch Reformed Church, Harrismith, Free State Colony. She was born on 16 Oct 1876. She died on 12 Sep 1963 at the age of 86.

He died on 23 Nov 1900 at Dewetsdorp, Orange Free State, South Africa at the age of 29.
