He was the son of Theunis Botha and Maria Magdalena Snyman.

He married Elizabeth du Preez on 8 Oct 1747. Elizabeth was the daughter of Philippe du Preez and Isabella Potgieter. She was born on 22 Feb 1728 at Swellendam, Overberg District Municipality, Western Cape, South Africa. She died on 7 Jun 1779 at Cape, South Africa at the age of 51.

They had one child: Philippus Rudolph Botha.

He died in Nov 1825 at Somerset East, Cape Colony.
