Edward Henry McMaster was born on 13 Apr 1848 at Grahamstown, Eastern Cape Province, South Africa.

He was the son of David John James McMaster and Jane Margaret Pinchin Webber.

He married Jeanette Seeligsohn on 9 Dec 1885 at Kimberley, Northern Cape Province, South Africa. She was born on 1 Jul 1865 at Cape Colony. She died on 18 Feb 1946 at Queenstown, Eastern Cape Province, South Africa at the age of 80.

He died on 9 Nov 1900 at Oas Christiana, Transvaal, South Africa at the age of 52.
