Samuel married Elizabeth Ann Whipp, daughter of Samuel Whipp and Hannah Blackburn, on 21 Mar 1853 in The Colonial Chaplin's house, Durban, Natal. (Elizabeth Ann Whipp was born circa 1828 and died on 14 Oct 1897 at sea off Las Palmas aboard Doune Castle.). The cause of her death was Apoplexy.
