Willem Hendrik Lombard Groenewald was born on 22 Oct 1909.

He was the son of Wessel Johannes Groenewald and Gertruida Anna Eksteen.

He married Juenne Wallis Cameron on 19 Jun 1939 at Bloemfontein, Orange Free State, South Africa. Juenne Wallis was the daughter of Hugh Cameron and Ethel May Brookshaw. She was born on 14 Nov 1920. She died on 2 Sep 2006 at Bloemfontein, Orange Free State, South Africa at the age of 85.
