He was the son of Robert Reid and Jessie Kimberley.

He married Christina MacKenzie Macdonald on 13 Oct 1927 at Benbecula, South Uist, Invernesshire, Scotland. Christina MacKenzie was the daughter of Norman Macleod Macdonald and Christina McKenzie. She was born on 28 Nov 1901 at 12 Lisburne Road, Hampstead, London, England. She died on 16 Nov 1959 at Melrose, Roxburgh, Scotland at the age of 57.

They had 2 children: Christina Kimberley Reid and Robert Norman Reid.

He died on 3 May 1986 at Melrose, Roxburgh, Scotland.

He was buried in 1986 at Holy Trinity Church, Melrose, Roxburgh, Scotland.
