He was the son of Lars Martin Titlestad and Margaretha Thompson.

He married Norah Janson Birkett on 8 Jun 1921 at Nkandhla, Natal, South Africa. Norah Janson was the daughter of Francis John Birkett and Sarah Anne Whipp. She was born on 30 Aug 1891.

He died on 26 Feb 1933 at Eshowe, Natal, South Africa.
