He married Marion Arthur Cameron on 12 Feb 1862 at Rondebosch, Cape of Good Hope. Marion Arthur was the daughter of James Cameron and Margaret Allison. She died on 9 Jan 1895 at 9 Burger Street, Pietermaritzburg, Colony of Natal.

He died on 12 Nov 1909 at Government Asylum, Pietrmaritzburg, Colony of Natal.
