Jacobus Johannes Albertus Nel was born on 14 Jul 1904.

He married Huibrecht Aletta Sophia Coetzee on 4 Apr 1933 at Cape Town, Cape, South Africa. She died on 26 Feb 1979.

He married Olga Dorothy Cameron on 28 Dec 1979 at Malmesbury, Cape, South Africa. Olga Dorothy was the daughter of Hugh Cameron and Ethel May Brookshaw. She was born on 9 Sep 1916. She died on 29 May 1998 at Krugersdorp, Transvaal, South Africa at the age of 81.

He died on 9 Feb 1992 at Zastron, Orange Free State, South Africa at the age of 87.
