He married Marion Hope Whipp on 11 Jun 1949 at St Saviours, Walmer, Port Elizabeth, Cape Province, South Africa. Marion Hope was the daughter of Charles Samuel Whipp and Olive Lee Watson-Smart. She was born on 10 Apr 1925. She died in 2004.
