Biography

Benjamin Rhodes Barrett was born on 15 Feb 1844.

He was the son of William Barrett and Mary Rhodes.

He was christened on 7 Apr 1844 at Harewood, Leeds, Yorkshire West Riding, England.

He married Maria Upton Burgess on 30 Jun 1875 at Middelburg, Transvaal, South African Republic. Maria Upton was the daughter of William Henry Burgess and Susannah Greathead. She was born on 17 Dec 1857. She died on 16 Oct 1928 at Wolmaster, Oristow Road, Rosebank, Cape, South Africa at the age of 70.

They had 3 children: Benjamin Hugh Barrett, Mary Constance Barrett and Daniel Burgess Barrett.

He died on 7 Jan 1919 at Durban Street, Greytown, Natal at the age of 74.

He was buried at St Johns Church, Pinetown, Natal, South Africa.
