He was the son of Richard Twitchin and Caroline Kersley.

He married Mary Ann Tarrant on 9 Sep 1841 at Micheldever, Hampshire, England, United Kingdom. Mary Ann was the daughter of Robert Tarrant and Sarah Mesh.

They had one child: Elizabeth "Eliza" Maria Twitchin.
