He married Ida Mabel Hughes on 16 Sep 1919 at St Peter's Church, Pietermarotzburg, Natal, South Africa. Ida Mabel was the daughter of Ernest North Hughes and Ada Ellen Williams.

They had one child: Ernest Filmer Brown.
