He married Margaret May. Margaret was the daughter of William May and Janet Buchan. She was born about 1788. She died on 18 Feb 1876 at Broad Street, Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

They had 2 children: Margaret Duthie and Elizabeth Duthie.
