Daniel Godfried Hartman was born on 17 May 1891.

He was the son of Hendrik Hartman and Rachel Magdalena Frederika Windell.

He married Edna Ross Munro on 10 Oct 1943 at Roodepoort, Transvaal, South Africa. Edna Ross was the daughter of John Ross Munro and Edith Mary-Ann Smith. She was born on 14 Jan 1903 at Barberton, Transvaal, South Africa. She died on 13 Sep 1998 at Roodepoort, Johannesburg, Transvaal, South Africa at the age of 95.

He died on 21 Mar 1957 at 51A Grobler Street, Pietersburg, Transvaal, South Africa at the age of 65.
