He married Sybil Mary Swift on 22 Mar 1974. Sybil Mary was the daughter of Arthur Benjamin Swift and Gertrude Sybil Newsum. She was born on 24 Jan 1908 at Clifton, Rotherham, Yorkshire, England. She died on 23 Jun 1999 at Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa at the age of 91.
