He married Mary Platt in 1888 at Victoria, Australia. She was born in 1869 at The Lodden, Victoria, Australia. She died on 20 May 1941 at Epworth Private Hospital, Richmond, Melbourne, Victoria.

They had 3 children: Daisy Bessie Spearing, Dorothy Muriel Spearing and Frank Ernest Leo Spearing.
