Edwin Thring was born on 8 May 1842 at St. Marylebone, London, England.
He was the son of Samuel Thring and Elizabeth Treleaven.
He immigrated from Sovereign from London and Plymouth on 24 Mar 1850.
He married Agnes Mcken on 27 Sep 1862 at St Paul's Church, Durban, Colony of Natal, South Africa. She was born about 1841. She died on 21 Aug 1911.
They had 2 children: Frederic Arthur Thring and Elizabeth Anne Thring.
He died on 13 Dec 1882 at Spitzkop, Lydenburg, Pilgrimsrest, Goldfields, South African Republic (Transvaal) at the age of 40.
