She was the daughter of Conrad William Bremner Diack and Esme Hilda Bazley.

She married Barry Smith. He was born on 22 Jul 1946. He died on 8 Apr 2003 at Vryheid, Natal, South Africa at the age of 56.

They had 2 children: Living and Living.
