He was the son of George Haynes and Living.

He married Agnes Le Ber Cameron on 25 Oct 1910 at St. Augustine, Thaba Nchu, Bloemfontein, OFS. Agnes Le Ber was the daughter of James (Jim) Cameron and Elizabeth Johanna du Plooy. She was born on 11 Jul 1876. She died on 30 Jun 1957 at Trompsburg, Orange Free State, South Africa at the age of 80.

They had 2 children: Charles Arthur Sidney Haynes and George Maxwell Haynes.

He died on 11 Mar 1952.
