Hendrik Lodewijk Bletterman was born on 14 Feb 1704 at Schwarzburg-Sonderhausen, Deutschland.

He married Elsabe Bergstedt on 11 Feb 1741 at Stellenbosch, Kaap de Goede Hoop, Kaap Kolonie. Elsabe was the daughter of Matthias Bergstedt and Christina Bergh. She was born about 19 Jun 1712 at Kaap de Goede Hoop, Kaap Kolonie. She died after 1751 at Stellenbosch, Cape Colony.

He died on 21 Nov 1776 at Stellenbosch, Cape Colony at the age of 72.
